Dua and Dhikr
1.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ
Bismillah
(In the name of Allah)
Umar bin Abu Salamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), said to me, "Mention Allah's Name (i.e., say Bismillah before starting eating), eat with your right hand, and eat from what is near you."
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
(Riyad as-Salihin 727)
2..
بسمِ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ
Bismillāhi fī awwalihi wa ākhirih
(With the Name of Allah, in the beginning, and in the end.)
When anyone of you begins eating, say: Bismillāh. And if you forget then when you remember, say: Bismillāhi fī awwalihi wa ākhirih.
When anyone of you begins eating, say: With the Name of Allah. And if you forget then, when you remember, say: With the Name of Allah, in the beginning, and in the end.
(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1858, Sunan Abi Dawud 3767)
Before Meal
1.
الْحَمْـدُ للهِ الَّذي أَطْعَمَنـي هـذا وَرَزَقَنـيهِ مِنْ غَـيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلا قُوَّة
Alhamdu lillāhi ‘l-ladhī aṭ`amanī hādhā, wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah.
(Praise is to Allah Who has given me this food, and sustained me with it though I was unable to do it and powerless.)
It was narrated from Sahl bin Mu’adh bin Anas Al-Juhani, from his father, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever eats food and said: Al- hamdu lillahil-ladhi at’amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin (Praise is to Allah Who has fed me this and provided it for me without any strength or power on my part), - his previous sins will be forgiven.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah 3285, Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3458)
2.
Alhamdu lillāhi ḥamdan kathīran tayyiban mubārakan fīh, ghayra makfiyyin wa lā muwadda`in, wa lā mustaghnan `anhu Rabbanā.
(All praise is to Allah, praise in abundance, good and blessed. It cannot [be compensated for, nor can it] be left, nor can it be done without, our Lord.)
Narrated Abu Umama:
Whenever the dining sheet of the Prophet (ﷺ) was taken away (i.e., whenever he finished his meal), he used to say: "Al-hamdu li l-lah kathiran taiyiban mubarakan fihi ghaira makfiy wala muWada` wala mustaghna'anhu Rabbuna."
(Sahih al-Bukhari 5458, Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3456, Sunan Abi Dawud 3849)
